Celestial mechanics - Celestial mechanics is a division of astronomy dealing with the motions and gravitational effects of celestial objects. The field applies principles of physics, historically Newtonian mechanics, to astronomical objects such as stars and planets.
Nikolai Moiseev - Nikolai Dmitriyevich Moiseev (Николай Дмитриевич Моисеев in Russian) (December 3(16), 1902, Perm, - December 6, 1955, Moscow) was a Soviet astronomer and expert in celestial mechanics. In 1938 he became the chairman of the department of celestial mechanics at Moscow State University and worked on this position until his death.
Pierre-Simon Laplace - ... Marquis de Laplace (March 23 1749 – March 5 1827) was a French mathematician and astronomer who put the final capstone on mathematical astronomy by summarizing and extending the work of his predecessors in his five volume Mécanique Céleste (Celestial Mechanics) (1799-1825). This masterpiece translated the geometrical study of mechanics used by Newton to one based on calculus, known as physical mechanics He is also the discoverer of Laplace's equation] and the [[Laplace transform, which appear in all ...
Two-body problem - In mechanics, the two-body problem is a special case of the n-body problem that admits a closed form solution. The most commonly encountered version of the problem, involving an inverse square law force, is encountered in celestial mechanics and the Bohr model of the hydrogen atom.
